Expert Circle interviewed Mrs. Universe 2022-2023 to talk about women in the workforce, finding your purpose, living abroad, and so much more, just in time to celebrate this year’s International Women’s Day.  Mrs. Universe is Juanita (Brown) Ingram, Esq. JD MBA is an attorney, author, and actress. During the interview, she shared:

“So often we equate our worth and purpose with what we are doing at the time but your purpose is so much deeper than just your profession.”

If you are a working professional, a lover of travel or someone just trying to figure it all out this article is for you.

What is the purpose?

Purpose can be defined as a noun or a verb, the reason for which something is done or created or for which something exists or has as one’s intention or objective. Juanita tells us that she found her purpose through volunteering. Each of her career titles and professions had an underlying theme of empowering women. From the courtroom to the movie set, world traveller to the storyteller, from parent to Mrs Universe, she is walking in her purpose.

Why is purpose important?

The BBC reports,  “Separate McKinsey research from 2022 showed 70% of employees say their personal sense of purpose is defined by their work, and when that work feels meaningful, they perform better, are much more committed and are about half as likely to go looking for a new job.” Mrs. Universe shared that purpose is ‘something that evolves you find over time and can change overtime.”

What now?

Specifically for women who are doing purpose-driven work, Juanita challenges them to lift as they climb and make a difference in the lives of others. While on your journey to find your purpose remember what is important.  She encourages working parents to set their priorities before the opportunity comes because “I don’t believe in work-life balance,” nothing can balance or be equal to her children, she explains.

On this day and others, Expert Circle challenges Women Worldwide to do purpose-driven work and encourage the next woman to do the same. If you are looking for an opportunity to volunteer to find your purpose. Dress for Success is an international non-profit always looking for assistance.
