Top 3 LinkedIn Features to Boost Engagement and Authority

  1. Video Content

LinkedIn’s recent focus on video content and its dedicated video feed offers a powerful opportunity to boost engagement and authority. Video posts generate higher levels of interaction than other formats, as they allow you to showcase your expertise in a dynamic and personal way. Whether you’re sharing tips, insights, or case studies, videos help you connect on a more human level, which the algorithm currently favours. Keep your videos concise, with captions for accessibility, and leverage this trend to stand out.

  1. Services & Featured Sections

Optimising the Services and Featured sections on your profile can significantly boost your authority and engagement. Use the Services section to clearly outline the products or services you offer, making it easy for potential clients to understand how you can help them. In the Featured section, showcase content that highlights your company, educates visitors about your expertise, and establishes trust. This could include key articles, case studies, testimonials, or posts introducing your company and its mission. These sections act as a digital portfolio, providing a snapshot of your expertise and offerings.

  1. Benefits of Premium or Sales Navigator Subscription

A LinkedIn Premium or Sales Navigator subscription unlocks valuable features that elevate your profile and engagement. For example, a scrolling header image allows you to display multiple messages about your products and services, making your profile dynamic and visually appealing. Subscriptions also give you access to the Premium link feature, which lets you promote a direct link to your website, blog, newsletter, booking system, portfolio, or online store. This functionality drives traffic to key resources, while premium search tools and analytics provide deeper insights to help you refine your LinkedIn strategy.

By leveraging these features, you can enhance your profile, build trust, and engage your audience more effectively, solidifying your authority on LinkedIn.

A seasoned professional with nearly 30 years of global experience, I have been leveraging LinkedIn’s powerful features to drive meaningful engagement and establish thought leadership in the technology, finance, media, and telecommunications sectors. My journey began in the 1990s, spearheading digital and AI transformations within organisations, and LinkedIn has become a key tool in amplifying these efforts.

I rely on LinkedIn to connect with like-minded professionals, share insights on emerging AI innovations, and engage with audiences across diverse industries. Features like LinkedIn Articles and Creator Mode have allowed me to craft compelling narratives, sharing my expertise in strategic planning, business development, and technological advancements in ways that resonate with my network.

As someone passionate about learning and sharing knowledge, LinkedIn has been instrumental in facilitating meaningful conversations through its commenting and messaging tools. These interactions often evolve into collaborative opportunities, whether advising investors exploring new markets like Europe, Africa, and the USA, or contributing to global initiatives with the United Nations.

For anyone looking to boost their presence, my tip is simple: use storytelling to make your posts relatable and actionable. Whether it’s a short post or a detailed article, focus on offering value to your audience, help them solve problems, learn something new, or see opportunities they might have missed.

LinkedIn is a great platform to build authority and, to build real engagement with your audience, be it for personal branding, or for a brand you represent.

One of my favorite features of LinkedIn is actually not something you can activate, but it is built in the platform algorithm: comments.

The thing with commenting on LinkedIn is that it will help bring the content to your network. Every time you comment on a post, be it from a brand or a user, there is a very high chance that LinkedIn will push that post onto the feeds of the people you are connected with (with a little note saying you commenting on that post) even if the post comes from a page that the user does not follow or a member who is not a 1st connection.

And that is an incredible feature that helps reach, engagement and overall builds your presence and authority on the platform. Just be mindful to leave comments that add value!

Lillian Ogbogoh

With over a decade of experience as a corporate trainer, Certified NLP Master Practitioner, and hypnotherapist, I’ve found LinkedIn to be an invaluable platform for empowering women to step into authentic leadership. Specialising in helping women overcome self-doubt and Imposter Syndrome, I use LinkedIn’s features to connect with professionals who can benefit from mindset shifts and actionable strategies to thrive in leadership roles.

For me, LinkedIn Events and Live sessions have been game-changers. These tools allow me to host engaging masterclasses and share insights on Feminine Archetypes, NLP techniques, and self-leadership frameworks. Through these sessions, I’ve reached a global audience, delivering transformative content to women in corporate boardrooms and beyond.

Another feature I swear by is LinkedIn Articles. By sharing actionable advice and empowering stories, I’ve not only built meaningful connections but also positioned myself as a trusted voice in leadership development. My posts often highlight the practical strategies I teach in my talks and training sessions, from communicating with impact to building resilience.

If you’re looking to make the most of LinkedIn, my advice is to focus on consistency and authenticity. Share content that aligns with your expertise, connect with your audience through personal stories, and use features like polls or comments to spark conversations. LinkedIn isn’t just a professional network, it’s a platform for amplifying your message and making a real impact.

It’s hard to just list 3 because there are so many great benefits to using LinkedIn, but here are 3 that just make good sense…

1) LinkedIn Live

LinkedIn Live allows you to connect with your audience in real time, offering a dynamic way to share knowledge and grow engagement. Whether you’re hosting a webinar, panel discussion, or live Q&A, this feature enables you to build trust and authenticity. The recording can be repurposed into shorter clips, creating additional value for your followers even after the session ends.

2) Hashtags

Hashtags on LinkedIn are a powerful tool to increase your content’s reach and ensure it gets discovered by the right audience. By including a mix of popular and niche-specific hashtags, you can position your posts within relevant conversations and industry discussions. For example, adding hashtags like #SEOAudit, #Linkbuilding or #DigitalMarketing to a post can attract professionals searching for those topics.

3) Comment on others posts

Engaging with comments on LinkedIn is an underrated strategy for building visibility and authority. By leaving thoughtful, value-added responses on others’ posts, you can showcase your expertise while also sparking meaningful conversations. Focus on contributing insights, sharing experiences, or offering solutions to questions raised in posts. This simple yet impactful habit can significantly enhance your credibility and reach.

By applying the strategies shared by experts Terry Heath, Francesco Larlori, Geoff Desreumaux, Lillian Ogbogoh, and Andy Drinkwater, you can harness LinkedIn’s features to boost engagement and establish authority. Whether it’s Creator Mode, LinkedIn Live, or interactive posts, these tools can help you connect meaningfully with your audience.

Start small, experiment, and focus on what aligns with your goals. With a thoughtful approach, LinkedIn can become a powerful platform for your professional growth. Now it’s your turn, take these insights and make LinkedIn work for you!
